Mini dress with lace details

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this mini dress. It has lots of interesting details as the front placket, the sleeve cut and all those lace eyelets that give a romantic attitude to it.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and small wearing ease (8cm at bust circumference).

You can sew the dress in any lightweight fabric - we suggest a super basic cotton popeline matched with some cotton lace.

Step 1

Start from a copy of your basic dress.

Draw the underbust line and widen waist dart so that it is 3cm wide at underbust.

Draw 2 horizontal lines parallel to the waist, one is approx 2cm above it and one is 5 to 7cm below waistline.

Step 2

Cut through the horizontal lines to separate bodices, waistbands, skirts.

On front bodice draw a slanted line as underbust slash line (higher in center front, lower towards side seam). Keep the original underbust line on back.

Step 3

Cut through underbust line (straight on back, slanted on front) to identify one more separate band.

On front bodice, manipulate darts: close shoulder dart and open the volume all at underbust.

Close waist darts on waistband pieces.

Redraw front skirt adding 100% of its upper measurement for gathers.
