Off shoulder asymmetric dress

4.5/5

To draft the pattern of this dress you need a basic block with darts and zero or negative wearing ease, according to the fabric you will use.

The dress features a strapless bodice where you can choose wether to add or not bones in side panel seams and an interesting, draped, asymmetric skirt.

Any medium weight with zero or minimum stretch (2-4%) works. A little stretch is helpful for the dress being tight but still comfortable, but think about adding a non stretch interlining to neckline facing to hold it a bit.

Here a video to assemble front pieces :)

Step 1

Mirror the basic block and start from the whole front.

Draw the new neckline from the armpit to 7-8cm above bust point, straight across center. Widen the shoulder darts by 1cm at the neckline to make it tighter to the chest. Draw the lines for dart manipulation.

Draw the slanted hem line and the draped pieces as shown in light blue.

Step 2

Trace the draped pieces 2 & 3 separate, then cut piece 1 on new neckline and hemline, and through the new dart lines. Close the previous shoulder darts.

Draw on each piece the new slash lines for pleats.

Step 3

On front main piece, open the slash line by few cm pivoting on side seam to create the first pleat.
