Off shoulder ruffle dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this sexy cocktail dress.

The bardot neckline has a full ruffle that highlights the neckline and is balanced by one more ruffle at hem.

The dress features an interesting dart manipulation into gathers at center. This style is super flattering and very feminine.

You can sew it in any light to medium weight fabric.

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and zero or very small (2cm on bust circ) wearing ease.

Draw back neckline from center back to armpit, then draw front plunging neckline starting from the armhole midpoint. Match the armhole measurement on front sleeve cap and draw the neckline also on the sleeve, discarding back cap completely.

Step 2

Cut through front and back neckline and draw slash lines at bottom edge of waist darts, perpendicular to center.

On front, draw the perpendicular also from bust point, then widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.

Cut through slash lines and waistline on both pieces.

Step 3

Close all darts on both pieces by opening matching volume in the slash lines you just cut.

Then, draw new slash lines perpendicular to center front and back to add new volume to be gathered.

Step 9

We suggest to create a spaghetti strap in self fabric and to use it to close the neckline.

Also, we would  sew a lining with basic darts to clean the inner part of the dress.
