Off shoulders jacket

4.5/5

Let's see the steps to draft the pattern for this jacket.

You will need a quite structured fabric to sew it, the best option. would be a cotton twill (gabardine, denim...) and a light to medium weight interlining to strengthen the lapel and collar. We suggest an elastic to keep the jacket snug on the shoulders but still be able to move your arms :).

Step 1

Start from a basic block with darts and appropriate wearing ease.

On front and back, draw the off shoulder neckline and a strap that will hold the collar.

On front, redraw the dart taking it all the way down to the hem. Draw also the patch pocket with flap and the jacket collar (you can find a reference here, change the button stand and collar measurement as you like).

Step 2

Cut away the extra and merge the back shoulder strap to the front.

Step 3

Draw a slash line to separate the collar and shoulder strap from the jacket and cut it.

Draw also a new armhole line on both front and back – it should be approx. 3cm inward, merging in the original one before the side seam.

Cut through all slash lines.
