One shoulder draped dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this fabulous cocktail dress.

It has a puffed sleeve, asymmetric neckline and draped skirt and a very interesting pattern construction.

You can sew it in satin - as the photo - or in any other light to medium weight drapey fabric as crepe or viscose.

We suggest to add full lining to it and if you want also foam cups to avoid using a bra.

To draft the pattern, start by tracing a copy of your basic block with darts and 4 to 8cm wearing ease on bust, depending on the fabric you will use.

Step 1

First, flare front and back skirt by 5 to10cm on each side, blending to zero to the knee.

Then, draw the slash lines for the waistband 4 to 6cm apart, then mirror front.

Step 2

Shape front waist darts so that they are 3cm wide all the way in waistband width, then cut through waistband lines to separate bodice and skirt from waistband.

Tape darts closed on waistband pieces.

Step 3

Notice that back waistband is slightly slanted downward while front one is straight.

Shape skirt by measuring approx 15cm up from knee line and reducing skirt width by 1 to 2cm at it. Blend at hip and knee lines.

Shape the hem slightly.

Step 7

Get the waistband pieces and cut through them in parallel lines to add volume.
