One shoulder top

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this long sleeve one shoulder top - it's the perfect trendy piece for your spring wardrobe!

You can sew it in any light to medium weight fabric: cotton, silk, viscose, but also medium weight jersey, or lightweight denim. So many options! The one in the cover photo is satin.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and zero to 2cm wearing ease on bust circumference.

Step 1

Start from a full copy of your basic block.

On front, draw the underbust line and widen waist dart to 3cm at it.

On both back and front, draw the one shoulder neckline from left armpit to right high shoulder point, then on front widen shoulder dart of left side by 1cm at neckline. This makes the neckline tighter to the chest.

Step 2

Cut on the new necklines, then on front draw the curved princess cuts to manipulate darts.

Cut through the lines.

Step 3

Separate the front pieces, discarding the waist darts, then close shoulder darts in center front piece.

Mark the grainline perpendicular to the waist on all pieces.
