Open back asymmetric top

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern of this summer top.

It features a sexy open back, spaghetti straps and an asymmetric front.

This one is sewn in two layers of silk crepe with bias cut, but any lightweight fabric will work. A crispier one as cotton popelin will give a slightly more structured shape, which would be also very interesting.

Plus, it's a great exercise to practice sewing bias cuts!

Step 1

Start from a fitted block with bust darts.

Draw the slash line for manipulating the dart into a french one in the side seam, then draw the full front.

On it, draw the slanted hemline and the asymmetric halter neckline as shown from the red lines.

Where the neckline crosses the shoulder dart, widen it by 1cm to make the top tighter to the chest.
