Open back flared dress

4.5/5

A sexy dress for a night out! Grab a medium weight silk satin (or crepe if you prefer non-shiny fabrics) and get ready for a quick but super satisfying make!

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and zero wearing ease (a contoured block).

Step 1

First cut through the waistline to separate bodice and skirt on both back and front.

Step 2

Then draw slash line on both skirt pieces from dart apex to the hemline, perpendicular to it.

Cut through the lines to close waist darts and manipulate their volume into the flare.

Step 3

Add 5 to 8cm flare to the side of back and front skirt.

Trace a copy of both pieces with the additional volume.
