Oversized raglan shirt

Style analysis: this top has a loose and oversized fit, particularly noticeable in the sleeves, which are puffed and gathered at the cuffs. There is a large, pointed collar that gives a formal and structured appearance. The top features contrasting stitching that outlines the seams and adds a distinct, graphic element to the garment.

Fabric: medium weight structured wovens as twill or denim.

Step 1

Draft the pattern starting from a basic bodice without darts and 10cm wearing ease at bust circ.
Our method for creating made to measure patterns  and for fitting them is explained in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Trace back and front separate up to hipline, then drop armpit point by 10cm, then widen by 6 to 8cm to add ease.

Step 2

Square down from these new points, then redraw bottom part of both armholes (from notches below).

Measure new back armhole and note down the measurement, then repeat the process for front one.

Step 3

Trace the basic sleeve, drop cap uppermost point so that cap is 8cm high.

Consider lengthening the sleeve by few cm (3 to 7cm) if you like the oversized effect in length too.

Lengthen armpit level line outwards, then starting from the new cap point use back and front armhole measurements to draw straight lines to armpit level. Lines are straight for now.
