Paneled dress with bardot neckline

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this midi dress.

It features a bardot neckline on front, V neckline on back and spaghetti straps to hold it.

Darts are manipulated into princess cuts that shape the silhouette and create a flared hemline.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and matching sleeve - if you don't have your own basic block yet, check here our course - there are still a few seats available!

Step 1

Trace a copy of back and front and adjust the length (we suggest 10cm above the ankle).

Draw the new neckline on back and front ending along the armhole 9cm below shoulder point.

On front, widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.

Step 2

Measure along armhole line from armpit to the new neckline on back and front bodice.

Find matching points onto the sleeve cap and align the 3 pieces in a temporary way so you can draw the slash line for sleeve cap as a smooth transition from front to back necklines.

Step 3

On front, cut at neckline and on shoulder dart lines.

Spit the waist dart into 2 smaller ones (ex. wide 1,5cm each), then square down to the hem and up slightly slanted.
