Party dress with side twist

4.5/5

This dress is packed with interesting details: an open neckline, shaped shoulder straps, statement sleeves and a front twist in the skirt. So many pattern techniques together!

Plus, if you sew it in a special fabric as this one you get a perfect piece for holiday season!

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts.

Mirror front to have it full, adjust skirt length, then reduce 3cm at hemline to taper skirt a bit.

On front, draw the pointy line where you want bodice and skirt to meet – to shape the line, extend right waist dart by 3 to 5cm.

Step 2

Get back and erase dart first by taking in 2cm from center back and 1cm from side seam.

Then draw back neckline and back shoulder strap.

Step 3

Cut through all lines to identify the 2 back pieces and draw the grainline parallel to original center back on both of them.

Step 11

Now get the basic sleeve, taper it and shorten it to 3/4.
