Raglan dress with front cutout

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this interesting raglan dress with built-in mandarin collar and front cutout.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and minimum 8cm wearing ease at bust circumference.

Step 1

First, trace a copy of front and back.

Draw the slash line for manipulating the sleeve into a raglan/saddle one. On front, draw the slash lines for cutout.

Flare the dress from sides by 5 to 6cm.

Trace a copy of basic sleeve, shorten it and cut it in the middle.

Step 2

Align each part of the sleeve to the armhole matching notches.

Redraw the shoulder/sleeve line slightly rounded cutting away part of the sleeve cap.

Step 3

Cut through the front bodice slash line and remove the part for front cutout.

Save the upper section for sleeve manipulation.

On lower part, draw 2 slash lines for panels slightly slanted towards side seam, then redraw waist dart spreading the original amount in 2 smaller darts.

Manipulate shoulder dart also.
