Shirt dress with front knot

4.5/5

A shirt dress is a timeless garment, but this has a twist! The pattern manipulation creates a front knot that is a nice detail. Draft the pattern with these instructions, then pick a shirt fabric and create your new dress!

To draft the pattern, start from a dress block without darts and at least 10cm wearing ease at bust circ.

Step 1

Lenghten the copy of your basic block to knee or more, then flare from side seams 10 to 16cm on both front and back.

Draw a parallel 1,5cm outwards from center front to create the button stand (room for buttons and buttonholes), then trace a mirrored copy of your front.

Step 2

On right front, draw a parallel to center front 5cm outwards from button stand line, approx at waist level (3cm above and 3cm below it).

Then connect upper point to shoulder line and lower point to side seam above hip level. Cut through upper line.

Step 3

Pivoting at shoulder point, open approx 20cm on center front line.

Cut also through waist line, then trace a copy of the section in between waistline and bottom slash line.
