Short dress with side drawstrings

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this trendy dress. It has side panels with gathers and an interesting manipulation at armhole/sleeve cap.

We suggest to sew it in a light to medium weight knit as jersey or ponte for the best fit, and using overlocker to keep seams stretchable :)

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and 4 to 6cm wearing ease at but, and matching sleeve (with little to no ease at cap)

Step 1

Trace a copy of your basic dress with darts, adjust the length and reduce hem width by taking in from side seams.

Draw the curved slash line coming from the armhole as princess cut, then redraw the waist darts slanted as the cut.

Step 2

Get the basic sleeve, shorten it and cut in the middle.

Step 3

Merge sleeve to bodice by matching notches, then continue the bodice princess cut into the sleeve pieces.

Cut through the curved slash lines and discard dart volume.
