Short top with front cutout

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern of this short fancy top.

We suggest a non stretch fabric, or a woven fabric with a minumum stretch (2-3%): canvas, medium weight cotton or linen, some heavier silk as faille, heavy crepe or heavy satin, wool blends...all these would work.

Step 1

Start from a basic block with darts and regular ease allowance.

Draw also a sleeve with sleeve cap matching with the armhole measurement (including the ease related to the fabric you are using – we suggest from 2,5 to 3,5cm).

Step 2

Draw the underbust line approximately 10cm underneath bust point. Check the measurement on you starting at the nipple point, as it depends on the size and on how much coverage you want to have.

Discard the back waist dart from the center back.

Step 3

Get the front.

Draw the new dart line slanted from the bust point to the side seam, 6-7cm down from the armpit.

Cut through this line and close the shoulder dart. Cut also at the underbust line.
