Short top with gathers

4.5/5

A short top that is pefect as a quick summer project + uses fabric scraps that are too big to be thrown and too small for everything else.

To draft the pattern, trace a copy of your contoured bodice or knit bodice with darts, then ;) follow the instructions to change the basic block into this style ;)

Pick a light to medium weight knit and enjoy you newest make!

Step 1

Trace a copy of back and front, then draw underbust line.

Widen waist dart at underbust so that it is 3cm at it all the way to the waist.

Extend center front 4 to 6cm below waistline, then draw a slanted hemline to waist level at side seam.

Draw a similar slanted line that starts in center front 4 to 6cm above underbust line, passes through dart at underbust and ens at side seam below underbust line.

Step 2

Then draw front neckline passing 5 to 8cm above bust level.

Neckline ends at side seam 2cm below armpit and continues in the back.

Replace armhole with a new point 2 to 4cm inwards.

In center front, draw a round-ish cutout for drawstring.

Widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.

Step 3

Cut through the lines to get:

  • back bodice – tape dart closed
  • front cup – trace both darts
  • front bodice – tape dart closed.

Check bodices shapes after closing darts and eventually blend the lines to get them smoother.
