Short top with ruffles

4.5/5

We're in love with denim! This tutorial is for a short top with ruffles creating types of sleeves that are very flattering.

You could also hack the pattern to create a longer blouse or a dress.

To start drafting the pattern, trace a copy of your basic block with darts and 4 to 6cm wearing ease at bust and waist circumferences. Our method for drafting made to measure pattern is fully explained in our pattern course - all details here.

Step 1

First, trace a copy of back and front.

Then draw a parallel line above waistline and one below it, total distance between them being 5 to 6cm (this is waistband width).
Cut through the upper line to separate bodices and waistband pieces.

Step 2

Get front pieces, close dart on waistband.

Draw a slash line from neckline midpoint to bust point, then cut through the line.
Close shoulder dart opening a matching volume into the new slash line.

Step 3

Merge back and front in a temporary way at shoulder line and draw the princess line from back, approx 8cm from center, to shoulder approx 4cm from high shoulder point, to front approx 8cm from center.
