Spaghetti straps long dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this boho dress. It features spaghetti straps, an open neckline on front and a deep one on back, flared skirt with added volume in center front and an interesting dart manipulation on front bodice.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and zero wearing ease.

The dress can be realized in satin, crepe, cotton, viscose...basically any soft and drapey woven fabric.

Step 1

Trace a copy of front and back and draw the neckline first.

On back, make it as low as the waistline and rounded upwards toward armpit, on front neckline is way less steep and ends approximately at bust height.

On side seam lower 3 to 4cm from armpit.

On front, widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.

Step 2

Get back, cut through neckline and square down from dart apex.

Cut through the new slash line all the way through the dart and discard its volume.

Step 3

Separate center back and side back, then add 10 to 20cm on each side for the flare. Blend to zero to knee line.

On center back, add 4cm for slit.
