Start from a basic dress with zero wearing ease and darts.
You can learn our method for drafting perfectly made to measure basic blocks (contoured ones, and the ones with wearing ease) and for fitting them in our basic blocks course/module 1. You will learn in depth also how to manipulate darts, add volumes and a lot of pattern transformations that will take your pattern making skills to a higher level.
Fabric: cotton or cotton blends, with a minimum amount of stretch to make the dress more comfortable.
On front and back, first draw the neckline – straight in back and sweetheart shaped in front.
Draw also the underbust line and shape it upward towards center front.
On front only, widen waist dart at underbust making it 3cm wide (as much as on the waistline), then redraw dart apex.
Cut on slash lines and separate the piece:
On front bodice, draw an additional dart 1cm wide at neckline ending at bust point.
Close dart on back bodice and cut through dart lines in front bodice.
