Swimsuit with cutouts

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this swimsuit that has side openings and cutouts.

From front and back it looks like a bikini but has an interesting manipulation that skips side seam.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic bodysuit with negative ease calculated on the fabric you will use (we suggest lycra).

Step 1

First, trace a copy of basic bodysuit.

Then draw the brazilian brief by reducing 3cm at back waistline and adding 3cm at back crotch line, both in the center.

Then draw the new leg opening on back and front without changing much front crotch width.

Step 2

Then draw the shoulder strap (2 to 3cm wide) on both back and front, moving along shoulder line 3 to 5cm up from shoulder point.

Draw the new neckline and drop armhole by 2 to 3cm to draw new armhole.

Cut through the new neckline and armhole.

Step 3

Merge back and front at upper part of side seam in a temporary way and draw the ‘8-shaped’ opening.

Draw the line going from bottom opening to center back.

Lastly, connect center back neckline to back waistline reduced by 3cm.
