Tiered dress with statement sleeves

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this interesting dress.

It features a fitted bodice with underbust and waist cuts, statement sleeves with elbow gathers and tiered skirt.

You can sew it in any light to medium weight fabric. To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts. You can choose the wearing ease you prefer but we suggest 6 to 8cm at bust circumference, 4cm at waist and hip ones.

Step 1

Start by splitting the basic block at the waistline.

Step 2

Separate the pieces.

Step 3

Get front and back bodice and draw the underbust line, slightly slanted downward from center back to center front.

Widen front waist dart at underbust.

Erase the upper part of waist darts because their volume is transferred into gathers.

Step 4

Join front and back bodices at shoulder line and draw the new armhole and waistline:

  • raise shoulder point by 2-2,5cm by reducing shoulder length
  • then measure up 4cm along shoulder line and redraw the neckline. Start at 90° from center front and center back.
