Trendy summer dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this breezy summer dress. 3/4 length and side slit, plus gathered bodice, make it a quick but interesting project.

You can sew it in any lightweight fabric as cotton or viscose, either in a small floral print or in solid colors, stripes...the basic silhouette offers many possibilities when it comes to personalization!

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with small wearing ease (we suggest 4cm at but, waist and hip circumference). Adjust skirt length to 3/4.

Draw the underbust line, then make front waist dart 3cm wide from waist to underbust.

Draw the slanted line from center front 3cm above underbust line to dart.

Step 2

Draw the new neckline lowering 1 to 1,5cm at armpit.

On back it is almost straight to center, on front remember to measure from bust point upward the coverage you like, then to shape it slightly higher for attaching shoulder strap.

Step 3

Draw 2 vertical slash lines evenly spaced on each bodice.

On skirts, square down from dart apexes, five 5cm to each side and draw the flared panels. Flare the same amount from side seams.
