Trouser with flap detail

Style analysis: classic trouser with pleat and high fold at hemline. Unusual yoke with shaped detail in contrasting color, matching waistband. Closure is an invisible zipper.

Fabric: all suiting fabric, light to medium weight cotton or wool, with zero to little stretch. We suggest considering interlining on yoke.

Draft the pattern starting from a basic pant that fits you and whose ease you like, then...

Step 1

Trace back and front separate. On both pieces:

  • raise waistline by 5 to 6cm
  • add 2 to 3cm to inseam and side seam at knee level
  • connect new points at knee to hip on side and crotch at inseam, then square down to hemline.
Step 2

Draw a parallel 12 to 18cm above hemline for the fold and cut across.

Step 3

Work on front.

Mirror upper part (from new waistline to hipline) and draw the 2 yokes (see red lines). Trace them separate, including darts.
