Wrap dress with dolman sleeve

Style analysis: lightweight shirt dress with dolman short sleeves, center front seam, shoulder dart manipulated in front volume that creates a tie.
Ties can be knotted in center back to highlight waistline.

Fabric: any light to medium weight woven fabric. All shirting fabrics will look great, but it is possible to use also satin, crepe, viscose, linen blends, poly blends.

Draft the pattern starting from a basic block with darts and 10cm wearing ease at bust circumference. Our method for drafting made to measure basic blocks is fully explained in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Step 1

Trace back, front and sleeve separate. Adjust length on back and front.

Make sure circumferences are the same on back and front (do not use that backwards shifting of side seam when creating dolman sleeves).

Erase waist darts, then draw a slash line on front from bust point to center front 5 to 7cm above waist.

Shorten sleeve to desired measurement (we suggest 5 to 7cm above elbow), then widen it so that hemline measurement matches bicep circumference.

Step 2

Cut through slash line on front bodice and tape shoulder dart closed.

Cut through sleeve center and merge each sleeve half to its armhole by matching notches.

Draw new side seam from sleeve to hemline adding at least 2 to 3cm to side seam at hemline, then keep straight all the way up to meet sleeve inseam.

Step 3

Trace a copy of back with the new volume. Round the line at armpit to create the dolman sleeve.

Raise neckline and the whole shoulder/sleeve line by 2cm (this is because on dolman sleeves the seam always tends backward).

Draw a couple of lines parallel to sleeve hemline and 3cm apart.
