Wrap dress with dolman sleeve

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this classy dress - it's a quick make with a simple shape that is perfect for printed fabrics.

To draft the pattern, start by tracing a copy of your basic block with darts and basic wearing ease (6 to 8cm at bust).

Make sure front and back have matching width at bust and waist circumference, so that side seam is not shifted backwards as in pencil dresses - this is needed for a good fit of the dolman sleeve.

Step 1

Start by tracing a copy of back, then square down 10cm from armpit point.

Step 2

Raise back neckline and shoulder line by 2cm, then lengthen shoulder line by 2/3 of sleeve length.

Step 3

Square down 20cm, then join bottom point to the new armpit point.

Redraw sleeve hemline so both angles are 90° (this way transition to front sleeve will be smoother).
