Wrap dress with drape

Style analysis: wrap dress with asymmetric details. Right bodice has darts manipulated into shoulder pleats, right skirt has a drape ending in waist bow, which is shaped as quarter of a circle for an unusual effect.

With this pattern you can definitely practice dart manipulation into volumes ;)

Fabric: light to medium weight fabric as cady, crepe, satin..in silk or silk blends, or polyester.

Draw a basic dress with darts and 8cm ease at bust, 6cm at waist and hips - our method for drafting perfectly made to measure basic blocks and for fitting them is included in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Step 1

Adjust length to 5cm below knee line, then mirror front to have it full.

Cut through waistline to separate bodices from skirts.

On right shoulder line pick a point 3 to 4cm from high shoulder point, connect to bust point and cut through this slash line closing previous shoulder dart.

Step 2

On both back and front square up 2 to 3cm from high shoulder points (new lines are parallel to center back and front).

Step 3

On back bodice, raise 2 to 3cm from nape point and draw the built-in collar blending with a curve to shoulder line.

Drop 6 to 8cm from nape point to draw a new center back line that has 1cm more length at neckline. From this point downwards, draw a line that removes 2cm at center back waist.
Erase back dart by discarding the remaining part from side seam.

On front, draw the wrap line from new point above right high shoulder point to left waist dart.
Turn the volume on right shoulder line into an inverted pleat by marking its center and two arrows looking to each other.
